Bulldogs Fall To Cards In A
Heart Breaker Plainville Cardinals 20
The Osborne Bulldogs made their first road trip of the season, traveling to Plainville to face the Plainville Cardinals. Both squads were coming off losses the previous week, and looking to rebound with a win. The game time weather was absolutely gorgeous, with bright skies, cool temps and little wind. The Cards won the coin toss and elected to receive the kick off. Dennis Rucinski , of the Bulldogs, kicked off and got the game underway. The kick off was short, and with the return, the Cards started their first drive in excellent field position. The Bulldog defense was a bit unsettled and gave up some big plays, resulting in the Cards drawing first blood. The Bulldog defense settled down and denied the Cards the two point conversion. After the resulting kick off, the Bulldogs fielded a slightly different offense than last week. Due to injury to Danny Floyd, the Dogs moved Aaron Geist to signal caller and Andrew Conway to running back. The Bulldog offense stalled and had to punt. The remainder of the 1st quarter was a battle between teams, with neither team scoring. During the second quarter the Bulldogs scored a touchdown with Geist passing to Pruter for the 6 points. Rucinski’s point after attempt was wide right, resulting in a knotted score of 6 all. Plainville got the ball back with time, and they put it in the end zone. Again, the Dog’s denied the Cards their two point attempt and the score was 12 to 6 in Plainville’s favor. The Bulldogs got the ball back with less than a minute on the clock. Coach Riner gave the signal to run the clock out, electing not to risk giving up a big turnover and regroup into the third quarter. Half time score: Plainville 12 Osborne 6. After Plainville’s marching band and dancers performed, Osborne received the 2nd half kick off. Osborne drove deep, but Plainville’s defense held resulting in turn over on downs. Both teams tried to get the advantage, but Osborne drew blood when Andrew Conway broke a long run for a touchdown. Rucinski’s point after attempt was blocked by the Cards. Score was tied at 12 all. Both teams tried to break the tie score but were unsuccessful. Unsuccessful until Plainville blocked an Osborne punt with a minute left in the game. The Cards used hard nose running to get across the goal line. The two point conversion was also successful resulting in a 20 to 12 score. Plainville’s kickoff was fielded by Joe Sumpter and resulted in a short return. The bulldog offense took the field deep in their own territory with 40 seconds on the clock. The dogs tried all the tricks in the playbook, but with an offensive pass interference penalty, and time running out, Geist’s pass was tipped and fell incomplete. Final score: Plainville 20 Osborne 12. Osborne will host the Hill City Ringnecks, Friday September 14th, at Liberty field. D-
